About the presentation:
With those individuals who were on the leading edge of the autism “epidemic” approaching the age of transition to adulthood there is increasing attention being paid to evidence-based practice (EVP) with adolescents and adults on the autism spectrum. As currently used, however, the phrase “EVP” refers only to the manner in which intervention is provided and does not take into account what, exactly, is the focus of the intervention. This workshop will provide an overview of what constitutes EVP with older individuals while emphasizing adaptive behavior as central to adult independence, goal selection, and effective community-based instruction. Learning ObjectivesUpon completion of this workshop attendees will be able to:Define what is meant by adaptive behavior.Discuss goal selection with older individuals as central, not peripheral, to EVP.Discuss a minimum of three behavior analytic interventions applicable to community-based instruction.
