This presentation was filmed at the 2015 Behavior Safety Now Conference
About the presentation:
“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson
How do we “have it make some difference that you have lived”? How can we be of maximum usefulness? Throughout the millennia, many great thinkers have pointed out that helping others is, paradoxically, the shortest path to our own happiness.
This is especially true when we understand “happiness” the way it is meant in the Declaration of Independence phrase, “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Scholars remind us that “happiness meant that feeling of self-worth and dignity you acquire by contributing to your community and to its civic life.”
Grainne will describe how using a behavioral approach to improving workplace safety is useful, honorable, compassionate, and allows each of us to leave the world a better place.
