About the presentation:
During this CEU course, we’ll dive into an essential topic for all behavior analysts: ethical decision-making. We’ll be digging into why ethical decision-making processes are so important, how different factors (including each practitioner’s environmental context and scope of competence) influence how these decisions are made, and how the ethical landscape is changing in our field over time. By the end of this course, you should be equipped with the knowledge required to establish your own ethical decision-making processes through a behavior-analytic worldview.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to determine what defines an ethical dilemma in ABA
- Participants will be able to identify how experimental/basic studies on choice-making behavior relate to ethical decisions
- Participants will be able to determine contextual factors that influence a behavior analyst’s ability to make ethical decisions
- Participants will be able to select the differences between scope of competence and scope of practice
- Participants will be able to identify the components required to establish competence in a specific practice area
- Participants will be able to determine the negative impacts of practicing outside of one’s scope
- Participants will be able to develop a decision-making process for analyzing ethical dilemmas and strategies for establishing “ethical fitness” that accounts for context and scope
